PORT Will Host Annual Opioid Settlement Meeting

Caldwell County PORT (Post-Overdose Response Team) will host its annual Opioid Settlement Meeting on Tuesday, September 15, at 5 pm at the Health and Human Services Building, 2345 Morganton Boulevard. At the public meeting, PORT team members will give an update on their programs and gather input on how opioid settlement funds should be used.  

“Community input is an important part of ensuring these funds are invested in programs and services that best address the needs of Caldwell County,” said Tara Swanson, PORT/Community Paramedic Coordinator. “Our team will use the community input to develop a plan for how to use settlement funds, then present that plan to the county commissioners for approval.” 

The county receives more than $814,000 through national opioid settlements from legal agreements with companies involved in the manufacturing, distribution, and sale of opioids. Currently, the county spends opioid settlement funds are invested in a post-overdose recovery team, recovery court, Naloxone distribution, and medication-assisted treatment.  

“Our efforts help connect individuals and families affected by substance use with treatment, recovery resources, overdose prevention services, and ongoing support,” said Swanson.
