Arrest Made in Early Morning Vehicle/Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Collision in Spokane Valley
Spokane Valley Traffic Unit Investigators identified and arrested an adult male suspected of hitting an adult female pedestrian on N. Sullivan Road, south of E. Mission Avenue, before fleeing the scene. The victim pedestrian was transported to the hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries. Starting with no known suspect information, Investigators identified the possible male driver, his vehicle, and arrested him this afternoon.
On August 13, 2026, at approximately 1:10 am, Spokane Valley Deputies responded to the report of a possible vehicle/pedestrian crash on N. Sullivan Road, south of E. Mission Road, in Spokane Valley.
Callers reported finding a severely injured adult female, who appeared to have been struck by a vehicle, lying in the roadway.
Deputies arrived and began contacting potential witnesses and gathering evidence, as Spokane Valley Firefighters and AMR personnel rendered medical aid to the victim, who was unconscious and appeared to have sustained possible life-threatening injuries. She was transported to the hospital for additional medical care.
The unknown driver of the vehicle involved did not remain at the scene and fled the area before Deputies arrived.
Due to the serious nature of this incident, Traffic Unit Investigators responded to the scene.
Traffic Unit Investigators, starting without any suspect information, worked diligently throughout the morning and identified the suspect as 46-year-old Benjamin L. Grubbs and his vehicle as a 2014 Toyota Prius. This afternoon, Investigators contacted Grubbs and took him into custody.
Grubbs was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail for felony Hit-and-Run Collision-Injury.
