LOS ANGELES, CA, UNITED STATES, April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ —

Never send for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Here we all are, still watching the updated coronavirus news on television as it appears in front of our eyes from around the world. Now, in our living room, we can know everything we need to know. We’ve been told to be patient and watch day after day, while longing for the time our social distancing will end.

United in fear, we are stopped in our tracks. It’s as if there is a God who is saying, “Stop.” “Love one another.” And “Appreciate the great gift of the life I have given you.”

Do we have a choice? The only choice that makes sense is to follow the rules, obey the experts, and remain patient for that future day when we’ll all be free again.

Of course, life as we knew it is no more. The priority of making money has easily surrendered to preventing the spread of infection. Even if we are bored or tired of staying home during the ravages of this plague, it’s inconceivable and even reckless to carry on and put people’s lives at risk.

Businesses have closed, and we want them to reopen. Production and distribution of goods throughout the world have been drastically affected, and we want to start it all up again. But we’re told to wait a little longer, and perhaps a little longer again. As we adapt to the new normal, respecting all the rules with everyone’s health in mind, we face the scary future. What should become very clear to us all is that our individual survival depends on the unity of mankind, which means compliance, not selfishness. No man is an island. We are all interconnected. We cannot survive alone.

The Chinese will probably emerge first. The Italians will also come back to life eventually. Koreans and others will as well. Here in America we cannot foresee when we’ll be back to business as usual, so it’s hard to be calm and ride the wave. Still, it’s our duty to do whatever it takes to see it through. Staying home is not that hard to do. From our window onto the world, we can find the strength to wait patiently and look for signs of recovery, while helping those who need it.

Four hundred years ago in England, John Donne wrote a famous poem while recovering from a serious illness. This is the human condition:

“No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manner of thy friends or of thine own were; any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind. And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.”

3 Good Reasons to Make Masks

Deanna works a full-time job and makes masks when she comes home.

Judy wanted to support the project because emergency workers are performing such an important service and someone needs to look after their needs

Judy wanted to support the project because emergency workers are performing such an important service and someone needs to look after their needs.

Three Seattle women explain why they decided to contribute their time to a project the Church of Scientology Seattle is running

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES, April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — "I've been sewing since I was 10," says Judy. The mother of three and grandmother of four ages 4 to 23, had "a whole bunch of fabric collected over the years." She went through her stash and used everything that was appropriate and just as she was running out, a friend donated a box of fabric so she could keep on making 15 to 20 masks each day.

She decided to take part in the project because "a lot of people out there don't have access to things like this. It's serving a good purpose because they're reusable, they can be washed and they're filling a need for people who are providing such a valuable service and who don't have any other access to them otherwise."

Linda is a second-generation Scientologist whose sister and brother, daughter and grandchildren are also members of the Church. Up to recently, her work supervising building contracts was not considered "essential," so she was at home, riding out the pandemic.

"I started this by making some masks for my brother whose kids live in the Philippines," she says. She found out they can't go out without masks, but there were none to be had there so she created and shipped masks over to them. She was looking for what she could do with the fabric she had left over and found out her Church was making and donating masks for emergency workers.

She makes 50 masks a week—25 for the project and 25 that she sells to help make ends meet.

"I think it's fabulous to do this because it's very difficult to find masks here," she says. "The people we're making masks for are helping the homeless and other people who are neglected and left behind and what we are doing gives them the protection they need to do their jobs."

Unlike the other two, Deanna is still at work in her job at the Port of Tacoma. She makes masks when she gets home from work. She began doing this because of the daughter of one of her co-workers.

"Her daughter works in a senior facility in Montana. They had no PPE (personal protection equipment) at all. While I was making masks to ship to Montana, I was researching the availability of masks and found out it is a much bigger situation than I thought."

Unlike hospitals, long-term care facilities haven't been stocking reserves of PPE. "If residents need that level of care, they send them to a hospital," she says. But that's all changed with the pandemic and these caregivers need to wear masks and take every precaution against bringing the virus home to their families.

"Another friend of mine became aware of the mask shortage from a Facebook group she belongs to, and she started making them. A lot of them went to the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.

"Then I talked to my friend Zoe from my Church, the Church of Scientology in Seattle. The Church and our Scientology Volunteer Ministers are active in WAVOAD (Washington Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster), and I was told that the Salvation Army needs masks for workers and residents at their centers."

"The Salvation Army has a mission to care for those in their emergency shelters and centers," said Rev. Ann Pearce who is handling the mask-making logistics at the Church of Scientology in Seattle. "Staff and residents are more at risk without these masks, so we are making as many as we can to fill that need and those of others in our community as well. We also appreciate those from other faiths who have joined us on this project."

Washington was the first state to report a COVID-19 case. Currently, over 14,000 people in the state have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

To assist with making face masks for donation, contact the Church at publicaffairs@churchofscientology.net and they will be put to good use.

Prevention is important. The Church of Scientology has created its How to Stay Well Prevention Resource Center to prevent the spread of illness and help people keep themselves and others well.

With the motto "an ounce of prevention is worth a ton of cure," the website includes information on how viruses and bacteria spread, how to properly wash your hands, the proper use of masks and gloves, social distancing tips, how to clean and sanitize your home, and what to do if you become sick or have symptoms.

The website is available in 17 languages and is offered as a public service by the Church of Scientology.

Stress can be a reason for individuals to turn to drugs and alcohol to cope but they are never the solution”

— Thalia Ghiglia, Foundation for a Drug-Free World

WASHINGTON, DC, USA, April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — This year, the COVID-19 crisis is challenging previous approaches many drug prevention organizations use to reach different communities with vitally needed education materials.

While it was seen from the year 2017 to 2018 in Washington, DC, that opioid related drug overdose deaths declined, it has been reported that from 2018 to 2019 the statistic reversed and is now on the rise giving more concern and need to increase drug prevention activities, given the additional factor of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Leading the way in drug education in Washington, DC, is a coalition of government and non-profit organizations working together with the US Attorney’s Office Heroin and Opioid Planning Committee bringing drug education materials, seminars and events to the public.

Stressing drug education and prevention as their top priority, the aim of many organizations is to saturate the city with educational materials, hold seminars and “conversation” events with youth and adults to help bring about a decrease in drug use.

One of the active organizations in the city is the Foundation for a Drug-Free World whose Truth About Drugs prevention materials have been an important and effective tool to empower youth and adults with the facts so they can make informed decisions and avoid the tragedy of drug addiction.

Thalia Ghiglia, the Foundation’s DC coordinator, noting the social restrictions being placed on community activities due to COVID-19, is concern about how the mission of all the drug prevention organizations will continue to reach the citizens of the city with their message.

Ghiglia noted that during this COVID-19 Stay-at-Home period, “Stress can be a reason for individuals to turn to drugs and alcohol to cope but they are never the solution.”

“With much effort and strong government and community partnerships, we are continuing our commitment to battle the opioid epidemic. We will continue to get information and resources out and engage our youth. Working together we can turn the tide again and reduce the opioid overdoes death statistics here in the city,” concluded Thalia Ghiglia.

One of the key weekly events in Washington during the summertime is the “Beat the Streets” community outreach event serving as a traveling community festival. “Beat the Streets” is a partnership between the DC Metropolitan Police Department, local social service agencies and community vendors bringing vital information directly to the citizens in their neighborhoods. The Foundation for a Drug-Free World has participated for over 7 years in the “Beat the Streets” events reaching thousands of youth and adults with drug education materials.

Ghiglia, while concerned, is optimistic, saying, “No matter what the COVID-19 situation brings this summer, Drug-Free World will find a way to continue to distribute our drug education materials, either at outside events like ‘Beat the Streets’ or, as many organizations have been doing now – moving their efforts online.”

“Drug-Free World is fortunate to already have extensive online resources using their 14 informational booklets on each of the drugs, 16 public service announcement videos and 14 documentary videos on each."

“We are going to continue to work with our partners and any other interested community service providers to get this information out and make it available to people.”

The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is an international nonprofit public benefit corporation that empowers youth and adults with factual information about drugs so they can make informed decisions and live drug-free. For more information, please see www.drugfreeworld.org.

The Church of Scientology supports the Foundation for a Drug-Free World’s Truth About Drugs program which is one of the world’s largest non-governmental drug education and prevention campaigns. The Church features shows about successful application of the Drug-Free World materials on www.Scientology.TV.

Drug-Free World offers all of its educational materials for free. Materials can be ordered at www.drugfreeworld.org. The Foundation for a Drug-Free World is an international organization with materials in 22 languages.

Nathan Heddleston: Running Keeps Life Worth Living

Nathan Heddleston Teacher

Nathan Heddleston

ALLIANCE, OHIO, USA, April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Nathan Heddleston has seen many people struggle to stay happy and healthy in an increasingly complicated world. But in his role as Nathan Heddleston teacher to many individuals, Heddleston has found that running provides an incredible array of benefits that make life worth living.

Nathan Heddleston Teacher Uses Running to Stay Fit

As we age, Nathan Heddleston says, it is very easy to start to gain weight. Most people stop exercising and let themselves go in a way that can be very problematic. But in his role as Nathan Heddleston teacher he has found that encouraging people to run helps them stay in great shape. Heddleston has used running to fight off the battle of the bulge and to keep as fit as possible late into life.

Just as importantly, Nathan Heddleston teacher has found that running helps to keep the body fit in ways that other exercises cannot. For example, he states that running keeps his cardiovascular health secure and balances his cholesterol, blood pressure, and much more. However, he also says that people need to work up to "running" with walking and jogging to avoid hurting themselves by straining their bodies too much.

Running May Help Make New Connections

In his role as Nathan Heddleston teacher, he has found that running is a great way to connect with others. Simply put, runners often stick together because so few people are willing to perform this type of exercise. And making new connections is something that he emphasizes in his role as Nathan Heddleston teacher. Humans are social creatures, he says, who need individual bonds.

And people find them in many ways – religion, politics, work, and hobbies all help bring people together. And in his role as Nathan Heddleston "teacher," he has found that running helps connect people who may not otherwise get along. For example, he has found that people on the opposite sides of the political spectrum may run together and create friendships that last for years.

Running Enhances a Person's Well Being

When working as Nathan Heddleston teacher he has found that running has helped many of his students and compatriots fight of many symptoms of depression and anxiety. While Heddleston understands that medical and psychological treatment are essential for these emotional troubles, he also knows that running can help many people heal by activating endorphin chemicals.

This situation, known as "the runner high," is something that he says he achieves every time he goes for a run. These feelings are critical to his role as Nathan Heddleston teacher because they help his students calm their minds, relax their nerves, and feel better about life. Just as importantly, running takes people outside and into a more natural environment. And in his role as Nathan Heddleston "teacher", he suggests running on a wooded trail, if possible, to enhance this benefit even further.

AOAC INTERNATIONAL Scientists Approve Confirmatory Screening Test for Detecting Veterinary Drug Residues in Foods

AOAC INTERNATIONAL logo

New Official Method expected to facilitate safety testing of products in the global marketplace

ROCKVILLE, MARYLAND, USA, April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — AOAC INTERNATIONAL today announced approval of a new First Action Official Method of Analysis℠ that can streamline screening for residues of 154 veterinary drugs in a broad range of animal food products.

Developed and submitted by scientists at Nestlé Research (Lausanne, Switzerland) in response to an AOAC Call for Methods, the liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry approach is applicable for screening and confirming 105 antibiotic, 41 antiparasitic, 5 anti-inflammatory agents, and 3 tranquilizers in a broad range of food products, including milk-, meat-, and fish-based ingredients and processed products (skimmed milk powder, fat-filled milk powder, whey protein, lactose, casein, infant formula, infant cereals, and baby foods, among others). The method was approved on April 24, 2020, during AOAC’s Analytical Methods Week.

Consumers have increasingly become concerned about veterinary drug residues in food, even more so with the high-profile issue of antimicrobial resistance emphasized by the World Health Organization. But controlling veterinary drug residues in the food sector is challenging due to the large number of drugs administered to food source animals, the diversity of animals and derived products, and a complex international regulatory environment.

“As the first multi-residue laboratory method to receive AOAC’s Official Method designation, this is a milestone in the veterinary drug residue analytical community,” said Dr. Joe Boison, chair of the Expert Review Panel that approved the method.

More than 200 compounds from veterinary drugs have been identified as presenting a potential health risk for consumers and are regulated at the national level or internationally through global food standards organizations. Most are regulated based on maximum residue limits, while some are banned for human consumption in food. Reliable analytical solutions are needed to monitor these substances in a wide range of food commodities. Several confirmatory methods based on liquid chromatography mass spectrometry are available, but they are more limited in the scope of food products, or matrices, they can be used with.

Research in the U.S. and the European Union indicates that rates of veterinary drug residue non-compliance are generally low, so the goal of this method was to provide food companies and regulators with an efficient pass/fail screen to increase throughput together with reliability. Samples flagged as suspect can then be analyzed for quantitation.

“Nestlé produces an enormous variety of food and has 21 control laboratories worldwide equipped with mass spectrometry instruments. We needed a more cost-effective method that could screen across a broad range of matrices,” explained Thierry Delatour, Group Leader at Nestlé Research and one of the method’s authors.

Critically for the food industry, the screening tool is well adapted to the global supply chain that includes not just raw materials such as milk, but also derivatives, such as milk powders that are heavily traded worldwide.

Dr. Boison added, “Once this method achieves Final Action status, we expect it to be very valuable in dispute resolution cases to facilitate international trade involving food animal products.”

Official Methods of Analysis of AOAC INTERNATIONAL are microbiological and chemical analysis procedures that have undergone rigorous formal validation by AOAC INTERNATIONAL. After a two-year tracking period, “First Action” methods are reviewed for approval as “Final Action” methods, which are published in the Official Methods of Analysis of AOAC INTERNATIONAL, a globally recognized standards resource for analytical scientists.

The approval of this method is the result of a multi-year community effort that was initiated with Nestlé to meet the need for a reliable confirmatory screening test. Managed by AOAC from inception to conclusion, the project included a year-long effort to develop a global stakeholder consensus on Standard Method Performance Requirements (SMPR®) for the more than 150 drug residues covered, and their residue limits in various commodities. The SMPR development was supported in part by Nestlé, Abbott Nutrition, Fonterra, Thermo Scientific, and Tyson Corporation.

The method was evaluated against SMPR 2018.010 which details the criteria needed for a valid screening and identification method for regulated veterinary drug residues in food.

“The volunteers on the Working Group, the Expert Review Panel and the AOAC staff were highly committed and it was a pleasure to work with them,” said Thierry Delatour. “Everyone was aware of the challenges and agreed on what direction to go. It was a very clear and fruitful process.”

"Screening 154 Veterinary Drug Residues in Animal Source Foods by LC-MS/MS” will be published in the Journal of AOAC INTERNATIONAL and Official Methods of Analysis.

BCI Wins Top Sales Training Company Award

2020 Top 20 Sales Training Company - Training Industry

Baker Communications Wins Top Sales Training Company Award from Training Industry for 2020

We always measure our success by our customers’ success. That's has always been our first priority.”

— Walter Rogers

HOUSTON, TEXAS, UNITED STATES, April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — Baker Communications, Inc. (BCI) announced that it was selected as one of the Top 20 Sales Training Companies for 2020 by Training Industry. As one of America's most established corporate training companies, Baker Communications has helped over 1.5 million professionals reach maximum performance since 1979.

According to Training Industry, selection to the 2020 Training Industry Top 20™ Sales Training Companies List was based on the following criteria:

• Thought leadership and influence on the sales training sector.
• Breadth and quality of sales training topics and competencies.
• Company size and growth potential.
• Industry recognition and innovation.
• Strength of clients and geographic reach.

BCI’s training uses a proprietary blend of award-winning sales training content, acclaimed sales methodologies and patented technologies that produce learners that outperform peers who were trained in traditional classroom environments alone. This unique approach combines learning reinforcement methodologies such as individual, manager and team coaching; learning-reinforcement with gamification; Virtual Instruction using "spaced Learning" delivery methods; the BCI Core and Supplemental E-Learning series; and an extensive online video refresher libraries.

In the past three years, Baker Communications had 18 of their clients receive the Learning! 100 Award, including 8 Top 5 place finishers. Their success stories are shown here: 2017, 2018 and 2019. According to Walter Rogers, “We always measure our success by our customers’ success. That's has always been our first priority.” Rogers went on to say, “That’s why our customers continue to partner with us for decades.”

The company’s unique approach to training combines learning reinforcement and spaced learning to help learners achieve high results. Educators have known for a long time that classroom training is never enough. The forgetting curve described by Ebbinghaus shows that up to 90% of the material covered in the classroom is quickly forgotten, 30 days after the class ends. The company points to a multitude of learning research that documents how the stacking of these learning tools create the higher achievement levels. In a landmark study by Benjamin Bloom at the University of Chicago, he showed that students who were coached in a one-on-one format outperformed 98% of their classroom-only trained counterparts. That same study also showed that when learning retention tools were utilized, those learners outperformed 84% of their classroom-only trained peers.

“We understand what it takes to drive performance to upper levels of achievement, and we’ve dedicated ourselves to that pursuit of excellence,” said Chief of Staff Joe DiDonato. “Even our tagline describes our philosophy of commitment: World-class performance never happens by accident.”

MDimune Signed a Research Collaboration Agreement with Paracelsus Medical University for EV Therapeutics Development

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA, April 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ — MDimune Inc., a cell-derived vesicle (CDVs)-based therapeutics company with BioDrone® platform technology, announced on April 30th, 2020, the signature of a research collaboration agreement with Paracelsus Medical University (PMU, Salzburg, Austria). PMU will bring their experience to further the company’s global development goals.

Those in attendance from PMU were Herbert Resch, Professor and Rector; Michael Nake, Chancellor; Eva Rohde, Professor, Vice Rector and Director of GMP laboratory; and Mario Gimona, Associate Professor and Head of Production GMP. Those in attendance from MDimune were Shin Gyu Bae, Chief Executive Officer; Seung Wook Oh, Chief Scientific Officer; Tae Kee Jeong, Chief Financial Officer; and Hui-Chong Lau, Manager of the CMC team.

The agreement states that PMU will develop a process for producing CDV therapeutics at GMP-compliant scale as well as supply them for the pre-clinical study and the initial phase of human clinical study. PMU has also agreed to establish GMP-grade mesenchymal stem cell banks derived from umbilical cords for MDimune, which will then be used to produce CDVs required for various preclinical and clinical development.

EVs, especially exosomes, have emerged as a novel therapeutic with their roles in intercellular communications. However, the fact that they only naturally occur in minuscule quantities and the difficulties involved in large-scale production have prevented a rapid progress in the commercialization of EVs. MDimune developed BioDrone® platform technology to overcome these critical limitations in EV therapeutics. MDimune anticipates that the research collaboration with PMU will accelerate the development of CDVs in therapeutics and the initiation of clinical trials in the US, Europe, and Asia, which will lead to more partnerships in the global market.

MDimune also announced the appointment of Dr. Mario Gimona, a leading exosome expert, as Chief Manufacturing Officer. Dr. Gimona has been heading the stem cell and extracellular vesicle (EV) production unit at PMU’s GMP laboratory as well as investigating the clinical potential of multipotent mesenchymal stem cell-derived EVs in the field of regenerative medicine. With his expertise in manufacturing of EV therapeutics, he will be able to help advance the clinical applications of BioDrone® platform technology.

“We are thrilled to announce a joint research endeavor with Paracelsus Medical University. We are confident that this collaboration will expedite the entry into the clinical phase of development for the company, which will allow us to become a global leader in the field of EV therapeutics and ultimately provide a cure for many patients with devastating diseases around the world,” said Bae, CEO of MDimune. Dr. Resch, Rector of PMU also emphasized that “combining the individual strengths of MDimune and PMU`s GMP unit will enhance therapy development and ultimately change people`s lives”.
