Drug-Free World hits back with drug education at National Night Out Events As Record Synthetic Drug Overdoses hit Washington DC.
Record overdoses from Synthetics in Washington DC was a major topic of discussion at Drug-Free World booths throughout the city during National Night Out. DC had over 300 overdose ambulance calls over a 10 day period recently from Synthetic drugs.
“Synthetic drugs have again hit our DC area. Ambulances and hospitals have been overwhelmed and too many deaths have been recorded. This horror must cease. We see drugs in every corner of our communities. Our youth, our family members, our friends need to be educated about drugs.” Rev. Susan Taylor, faith liaison for the Foundation commented. “We are working in coalition with government agencies, parents, police, other drug education programs, churches, teachers and other organizations in doing just that. If we can save one life we are winning but if we can save hundreds we can save our City.”
National Night Out in Washington, D.C., sponsored by the Metropolitan Police Department gave the Foundation for a Drug-Free World’s DC Chapter an opportunity to distribute its award-winning Truth About Drugs materials. Drug-Free World volunteers manned booths in all seven police districts reaching hundreds of citizens. All in all, parents, police, addiction specialists and teachers received thousands of educational booklets.
Started in 1984, National Night Out, promotes a spirit of partnership between police and their communities while involving all in crime-prevention activities annually on the first Tuesday of August.
Used widely by DC Prevention Centers, local Churches, re-entry programs, government agencies and non-profits, the Truth About Drugs materials empowers youth and adults with the facts so they can make informed decisions and avoid the tragedy of drug addiction.
The Truth About Drugs booklet makes the point that drugs are not the solution: “Difficult as it may be to face one’s problems, the consequences of drug use are always worse than the problem one is trying to solve with them.”
The Church of Scientology supports the Foundation for a Drug-Free World’s Truth About Drugs program which is one of the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention campaigns. It has been conclusively proven that when young people are provided with the truth about drugs, usage rates drop commensurately.
