SMi’s Exclusive Interview with Mark Albrecht, Project Officer, HHS/ASPR/BARDA

Interview: Mark Albrecht

NEW JERSEY , ISELIN, USA, August 13, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — SMi Reports: An exclusive interview with Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) acting Chief Mark Albrecht has been released in the run-up to the 3rd annual Superbugs & Superdrugs USA Conference taking place in Iselin, New Jersey on November 12 – 13, 2018.

Mark provided us with some insightful content about his role in the field, his view on challenges within the field and his vision on the future of the development of novel anti-infectives. His presentation will focus on ‘Supporting Antibacterial Research and Development’, how BARDA partners with industry to stimulate innovation in AMR R&D and how CARB-X is refilling the preclinical AMR product pipeline.

He works closely with product sponsors to advance the development of their antibacterial candidates, towards consideration for regulatory approval for both public health and biodefense indications, coordinating efforts to advance the development of bio-defence medical countermeasures and ensure that Government agency portfolios are properly aligned.

By attending our 3rd annual Superbugs & Superdrugs USA event, not only would you benefit from the knowledge delivered through a range of thought-provoking presentations, by experts at the forefront of the field; but you would also receive the opportunity to interact with and exchange ideas with decision makers from all of the different facets of the industry – from research to commercial providers and regulatory bodies.

–SNAPSHOT OF INTERVIEW–

Q. What do you see as the greatest hurdle to developing novel and effective anti-infectives?
A. There are a variety of challenges affecting the antibacterial development industry including optimal pipeline composition to withstand attrition and the development of resistance, and clarity on the development/regulatory path for a single pathogen anti-infective; however, there has been far greater discussion regarding the lower commercial returns antibiotics generate compared to other therapeutic areas such as cancer or heart disease. Given that antibiotic development is financially challenging with an uncertain return on investment (ROI) it is clear that both push mechanisms (CARB-X, GARD-P, NIAID, Wellcome Trust, BARDA, etc.) and pull incentives are necessary. In particular, pull incentives will ensure companies have a predictable ROI for developing these drugs that society requires, but undervalues. Dozens of publications have described a variety of incentive structures, any of which would involve tradeoffs for all parties, including sponsors, non-profit organizations, and payers, therefore, there is work to be done to establish a consensus recommendation for policymakers.

Q. What do you hope to gain from this meeting?
A. I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet all the attendees and speak with them about their products, challenges and the opportunities that CARB-X and BARDA offer.
At this year’s two-day conference, delegates will be able to hear from HHS/ASPR/BARDA and many more industry leaders, including Scynexis, Janssen, Octagon Therapeutics, Astellas and more.

Washington Mesothelioma Victims Center Now Offers a Paper Mill Worker with Mesothelioma in Washington Much Better Attorney Options to Ensure They Receive the Best Financial Compensation Results

It is vital to have the nation's most skilled and experienced mesothelioma attorneys assisting you with compensation claim as we would like to explain at 800-714-0303”

— Washington Mesothelioma Victims Center

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, USA, August 13, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — According to the Washington Mesothelioma Victims Center, "We specialize in assisting pulp and paper mill workers in Washington State and nationwide receive the very best possible financial compensation if they have been diagnosed with mesothelioma. Pulp and paper mills in Washington State still employ thousands of workers and have done so for generations. Unfortunately, pulp and paper mill workers are still being diagnosed with mesothelioma, as we would like to discuss anytime at 800-714-0303-and we would like to help.

"If you are a pulp or paper mill worker who has been recently diagnosed with mesothelioma and you want to receive the very best possible financial compensation, it is vital to have the nation's most skilled and experienced mesothelioma attorneys assisting you with compensation claim as we would like to explain at 800-714-0303." http://Washington.MesotheliomaVictimsCenter.Com

Pulp and paper mills typically were built with fire prevention in mind. Most were insulated with asbestos and much of the equipment contained asbestos. Workers at these types of workplaces were exposed to asbestos frequently or on a-daily basis. The workers we are specifically focused on were involved in plant maintenance, or they were a plumber, electrician, or a welder and their job was to keep the mill running.

According to the group, "Many of our nation's pulp and paper mills are-located in smaller cities or rural areas where the top mesothelioma treatment options may not be available such as Camas or Longview, Washington. In addition to ensuring a pulp and paper mill worker hires the nation’s most capable attorneys we are also urging a person or family dealing with mesothelioma to call us at 800-714-0303 about the best possible medical treatment options in their area or region-which in this instance is the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Clinic and the University of Washington in Seattle. We are advocates for people with mesothelioma and our unsurpassed services are free.” http://Washington.MesotheliomaVictimsCenter.Com

The Washington Mesothelioma Victims Center wants to emphasize their services are available statewide in every community in Washington including Seattle, Tacoma, Spokane, Everett, Vancouver, Yakima, Bellingham, Aberdeen, Bremerton, Moses Lake, Olympia, Mount Vernon, Wenatchee, the Tri Cities, etc.

For the best possible mesothelioma treatment options in Washington the Washington Mesothelioma Victims Center strongly recommends the following heath care facility with the offer to help a diagnosed victim, or their family get to the right physicians at this treatment facility. The Center believes this treatment facility for mesothelioma to be one of the best in the nation.

* Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the UW Medical Center called the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, in Seattle, Washington: http://www.uwmedicine.org/services/cancer-care

High-risk work groups for exposure to asbestos in Washington State include Veterans of the US Navy, hydro-electric power plant workers, shipyard workers, nuclear power plant workers, oil refinery workers, pulp and paper mill workers, factory workers, plumbers, electricians, miners, auto mechanics, machinists, and construction workers. Typically, the exposure to asbestos occurred in the 1950’s, 1960’s, 1970’s, or 1980’s. http://Washington.MesotheliomaVictimsCenter.Com

The states indicated with the highest incidence of mesothelioma include Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Virginia, Michigan, Illinois, Minnesota, Louisiana, Washington, and Oregon.

Learning how to perform beauty enhancing Fibroblast treatments with a Plasma Pen has opened up the door for greater success for many small businesses, with forward-minded owners. The good news for Americans interested in becoming part of the new entrepreneurial storm, is worldwide leader in Plasma Pen and Fibroblast treatment instruction Rose Cruz of Plasma Pen Pro has announced she will be traveling the country to train and certify future Plasma Pen Pro technicians, something sure to bring greater interest to their businesses or to themselves as beauty and anti-aging professionals.

“I am very excited to be going to the USA to teach the secrets of the Plasma Pen and Fibroblast treatments,” commented the enthusiastic Rose Cruz. “I know this is something that not only changes the lives of the people who receive the remarkable Plasma Pen work, but also can hugely enhance the amount of income my students make after being officially trained and certified.”

According to Cruz, the Plasma Fibroblast treatments deliver a long list of benefits with highlights like being safe and effective, acting as a totally non-invasive treatment, no surgical techniques are used, the skin isn't cut, and there is no bleeding or bruising.

The treatment itself is used for Wrinkle Reduction, Scar Reduction, Mole Removal, Skin Tag Removal, Tummy Tucks, Eyelid Lifts, Eyebrow Lifts, Lip Line Reduction, and much, much more.

Training dates and registration information can be found on the very informative Plasma Pen Pro website or through contacting the company directly.

Their two-day course focuses mainly on practical, rather than just theory. Rose Cruz states “it is more important to actually work on clients and get to know the client’s skin, and how plasma works on that skin, rather than myself or my partner talk about it. When our students work on clients, we ask them to use all their senses to be able to place the carbonized dots correctly and effectively, without any danger to the client. It takes a special set of skills, and those skills is what we work on in class. We like to say that 25% of the course is theory and 75% of the course is practical. That is why our students succeed after taking a plasma pen pro course with us”. By looking at their students’ posts, reviews and Instagram pages, they are certainly successful.

Plasma Pen Pro (PPP) are developing the next generation of plasma pen to introduce to the market, and will be out in Europe, North America and Australia soon.

Krystal Duckett Divulges the Most Common Misdiagnosis in Mental Health

Industry professional, Krystal Duckett sheds light on the common mental health misdiagnosis.

SARASOTA, FL, UNITED STATES, August 10, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Mental health can be difficult to diagnose. There are many factors that influence a diagnosis. While personal medical history is a factor, there are other considerations that are unique to each patient. Each condition is unique. Therefore, it should be treated individually.

Unfortunately, that often isn't the case. There are a few health misdiagnoses that are common. Industry leader, Krystal Duckett explains the most common misdiagnosis in mental health.

Bipolar Disorder

A person who is suffering from untreated Bipolar Disorder can be a danger to themselves and others. This is an extremely harrowing mental illness, which affects all aspects of the patient’s life in varying degrees. A bipolar person has incredible mood swings, which go from euphorically high or productive (manic) to dangerously low (depressed).

Unfortunately, misdiagnoses are common. Since people usually seek treatment while in the throes of either mania or depression, their symptoms differ. This can lead to treatment which is inaccurate and can be dangerous to the patient’s condition.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

PTSD is a common and dangerous mental illness. PTSD is commonly a condition that plagues soldiers. However, any traumatic event can trigger the onset of PTSD.

According to a study, between 2005 and 2007, hundreds of soldiers were misdiagnosed and discharged from the United States Military. In the wake of these findings, the rate of personality disorder diagnosis throughout the US Military dropped seventy-five percent. This led to policy changes and better mental health vetting systems.

Misdiagnosis of PTSD is common. Therefore, it is often treated as Anxiety, Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, or Borderline Personality Disorder. While this might be treating a symptom of PTSD, it is ineffective in helping the affected person manage daily life. Sadly, it’s extremely common for therapists to misdiagnose this disorder.

Borderline Personality Disorder

Borderline Personality Disorder affects a patient’s sense of self and identity. Symptoms include mood swings, inability to manage a stable relationship, impulsivity, and feeling worthless. This disorder is manageable. Although, proper diagnosis is essential for management.

Unfortunately, due to the similarities between other often misdiagnosed disorders, Borderline Personality Disorder often goes untreated. Instead, patients seeking help are treated for Bipolar Disorder, Depression, PTSD, or ADHD. Again, it takes a skilled therapist to decipher the differences. Yet, ineffectiveness, despite the difficulty, is unacceptable. Sadly, this could be detrimental to their wellbeing and can often hurt instead of healing.

Once diagnosed, everyone accepts this diagnosis, even if the person is still suffering. This can lead to worsening symptoms, considering everyone around them, doctors included are insisting that they should be feeling better. Plus, if the therapist doesn't dig deeper, the misdiagnosis will remain. Therefore, proper treatment eludes the patient. Commonly, a decade of treatment will pass with the misdiagnosis going unnoticed.

In summation, the practice and correct diagnosis of mental illness is still evolving. Krystal Duckett is passionate about raising awareness for misdiagnosis and getting patients the help, they need.

Dr Temp Patterson Discusses Common Causes of Sinus Infection and how to treat them

BURLEY, IDAHO, UNITED STATES, August 10, 2018 /EINPresswire.com/ — Sinus infections are very common. You have four pairs of sinuses which are located are behind, above, below and between your eyes… These sinuses are hollow, but if they become blocked and the mucus can’t drain, they fill with fluid, causing sinusitis, or a sinus infection. Tapping the face with a finger near an infected sinus can be extremely painful.

The most common symptom of a sinus infection is a sinus headache: pressure and pain behind your cheekbones or around your eyes. Other symptoms include yellow- or green-colored nasal discharge, a foul taste in your mouth, and fever. Sinusitis can be acute (lasting less than a month), subacute (lasting up to three months), or chronic (lasting longer than three months). You can also have recurrent sinus infections, which occur several times a year.
Common Causes of Sinus Infection

Dr. Temp Patterson Says "sinus infections are caused by either viruses or bacteria, but they can be caused by fungi as well." Although sinusitis is a very common condition, some people are at higher risk of developing the infection. They include people who:

Have nasal congestion from a cold or allergy
Have asthma
Have blocked drain ducts
Have abnormalities in the nasal passages, such as nasal polyps or a deformity
Have a weakened immune system
Smoke

Sinus Infection Treatment at Home

It isn’t possible for you to tell at home if sinusitis is caused by a bacteria, virus or fungus, but there are some steps you can take to help relieve sinus infections symptoms.
They include:

Moisturizing the room air with a humidifier or vaporizer
Increasing your fluid intake to ensure you are well hydrated
Using saline sprays or nasal irrigations
Using nasal spray decongestants for 2 or 3 days at the most
Applying warm compresses to your face to help relieve pain and pressure
Sleeping with your head elevated. If sleeping on a pile of pillows isn’t comfortable, place blocks under the two legs at the head of your bed to elevate it.
Taking over-the-counter pain relievers, such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen

When to See a Doctor for a Sinus Infection

Acute sinusitis often goes away on its own; however, there are times when you should see your doctor for sinus infection treatment if self-care doesn’t work. You should see a doctor if you still have sinusitis symptoms after a week or if they return more than a few times within a year. "You should also see a doctor as soon as possible if the infection worsens" says Dr. Temp Patterson. Signs of a worsening sinus infection include:

Fever
Sinus symptoms persisting for more than one week
Increase in pain or the pain spreads
Over-the-counter pain medications do not relieve the pain
Increase in nasal discharge that has color

Who to See for a Sinus Infection

Most often, you would see your primary care physician or family doctor to be assessed for sinus infections. If you have chronic or recurrent sinus infections, your primary doctor may refer you to see a specialist, an otolaryngologist, often called an ear, nose, and throat (ENT) doctor. An otolaryngologist can determine why you have an infection and recommend treatment. Check with your insurance to see if you need a referral from your doctor before seeing a specialist.
